It was an extremely hot day, and as we trudged about the field, looking at bootleg CDs, t-shirts with rude messages of them and listening to a sweary comedian complaining that the orange juice was full of LSD, we were slowly being cooked. We listened to a few bands (Shack were really good), and waited for James to arrive. At 7pm, we finally got in backstage. I met Tim and Saul for the second time (read about the first time here), and met the rest of the band (Jim, Adrian, Mark, Mike and Dave) for the first time. I asked them to scrawl on my CD (I know what I'm here for), and they said "yes" (Dave literally only said "YES"!). I showed Tim a CD I had bought at the festival (it was a Gomez live bootleg), and he said that he quite fancied a copy. I said that if he gave me some kind of contact, I could record a copy and send it to him. So he gave me his e-mail address and phone number (both of which I will not give to anyone!). While Tim was taking a rest on the floor, I sneakily took a picture of him, and I will scan it in and put a copy here as soon as the photos are developed. I also met Billy Bragg, and got his autograph. He was chatting to Tim at the time!
Later, we enjoyed their performance….and I mean really enjoyed it!!!
We went back to see them for a couple of minutes after the show, where they gave me an I know what I'm here for t-shirt. The shirt is black, bears the legend I know what I'm here for in variably-sized pink letters. It has the James logo on the left sleeve, and a cartoon pig (facing with it's back to the viewer) on the back. I was wearing it while I was writing this piece of writing!!!
We got back home at 1am, and I was totally….there isn't a suitable word to describe how whatever-it-is I was….but I was, and totally it at that!
